I’m curious about how much of mental illness is directly caused by people silently repeating a statement over and over to themselves. Most of such statements are false or indeterminable, of course, but I suspect even true statements would cause trouble. This is a culturally encouraged behavior in many settings, particularly religious ones.

Has anybody looked into this, that you know of?
I don’t know of anyone looking into that.
