I can’t imagine how the island nation of Japan which is the size of California but has a population of 130 million could possibly function with say, the population of California. It would be utter mayhem, dogs and cats sleeping together etc.
A shrinking population is only a problem for pyramid schemes such as social security.

I have speculated along these lines myself in various comment sections – but that was mere conjecture by a medical ignoramus. I wonder how good their evidence is?
